The 10 Year Old Paparazza

Red Camelias from my garden

Growing up, I took pictures of everyone and everything. My dad hated getting his picture taken. Most of them are of him giving me an annoyed look, mouthing “no,” as he outstretched his hand in protest, as he said, “Jenny, stop taking my picture,” as though I was a 10 year old paparazza. Of course, I didn’t listen to him being the Oldest and Only Daughter, and all.

Now that he’s gone, I have so many pictures of him and I’m grateful for my stubbornness that I inherited from him. As I am scrolling through my photos to upload to iStock, I’ll come across a picture of my dad as though he is saying, “Hello, I’m still here. I love you.”

So, if you are a person who hates it when people take your photo, let them. They will appreciate the physical memory of you when you are away from them.

If you are a person behind the camera, keep taking those photos. You will be grateful for them. You never know if that will be the last picture of your loved one.

XO

Jenn
